Mainly poetry - but I am not prolific.
Far more reviews of poetry collections.
I do occasional pieces for Small Press magazines under my "real" name & noms de plume.
How about you?
I admire people who can write poetry. My attempts at it have been poor. It sounds like you are published too, in magazines. Very good.
I am writing a novel, as many people here are, but I've never written anything that's been published. I'm also a guitarist, singer and songwriter and that's my main focus at present.
Cheers, Tom.
The rumour is that there is at least one good book in each of us.
I'm sure it will prove to be true in your case.
Writers tell me it is the second one that is a bastard to create.
If you want parts of "a novel in progress" to be published, I can suggest some genuine, sincere and helpful Small Press magazines and editors.
Consider, please, and let me know.
I'd be very interested to hear your suggestions.
Thanks, Tom.
The most "welcoming" magazine for all sorts of artistic endeavour that I have encountered over the past ten years is called Dial 174.
Its immediate past editor, Joseph Hemmings, was one of the first to publish a piece of prose by me (in 1997).
Its current editor is an artist called John Claypole who lives in Peterborough.
I've found it is always best to recce the territory before submitting anything, and would suggest that you invest in the current Summer edition of DIAL at £3.50 for the A5 edition or £5.00 for the easier to read A4 edition (same content but bigger font size).
John's address for snailmail is: 6 Helpston Road, Glinton, PETERBOROUGH,
Cambs. PE6 7JT.
If you are buying on my recommendation, it is better for this first approach to be by snailmail, though later, John will accept submissions by e-mail (most unusual for a Small Press magazine as their to and fro-ing keeps Royal Mail in business, I think).
Please give it a go.
Excellent, thanks. I'll keep those details until I'm ready to make a move.
Many thanks.
Tom.
