Being a writer is hard work, but not necessarily lonely anymore. Things have changed a bit, I think. There's blogging, for a start, and in a shameless plug for what I have started, check out www.write-invite.com where writers cna compete against each other, olnine, every Saturday. It'll be fairly unique for a metaphorical five minutes and then everybody will be doing it. It beats the hell out of having to use all that paper and paper clips and getting the margins right etc etc. Writing can be more gregarious than it was. However, I still think a writer needs time on his/her own. A kind of 'controlled solitude' if you like.
